Reading the second article prompted me to actually read the first
(and I bashed them before I read it--shame on me!)

Apparently when Allchin said open-source, he really meant GPL. And I
would have to partially agree. I DO NOT agree that the GPL "stifles
innovation." But sure hate re-inventing code that already exists just
because it's GPL instead of a more open license.

And the first article did us all a great disservice by saying
"code such as rival Linux" when the writer apparently _knew_ that
Allchin wasn't talking about Linux--read the last two paragraphs.

The last two paragraphs, however, do show a little "foot-in-mouth"
action: Microsoft is not concerned about sales competition from
Linux?---even though the number of Linux systems shipped has risen to more
than half the number of Windows systems, and the number of Windows systems
is less than half the total market.

And "We can build a better product than Linux" Oh, yeah? You've been in
business twenty years; when are you going to provide some evidence for
that claim?
