I was chair of KITIA (industry group supporting 1838A), which kind'a
wrapped up late 1980's, as PCIS transitioned the technology into PCTE
(early 1990's), which culminated with a couple implementations of which
all but one seem to have faded (Transtar still exists with the Emeraude
implementation of PCTE).
I chaired the OMG's PCTE SIG, which closed its business a year or two
ago, having achieved goals of recommending OO and Fine Grain extensions
to the standards maintainers, while the PCTE community became smaller
PCTE is still the basis for the Transtar repostiory, and for a number of
efforts of Stanford Management Group.
The PCTE technology has been reincarnated by various object oriented
repository efforts. The latest I've seen is Unisys' UREP, which as I
attended a course on it, had a lot of this is like that from PCTE stuff,
but it's fully OO. Home page is
As we find efforts to standardize this technology today (e.g., through
OMG), the sort of technology visible in UREP and Team Connection are
what my consulting clients consider "current".
