Hello to all. I'm posting this on behalf of a friend.

He's developed a high bandwidth version of a site using Flash exclusively
(ughh!) in an html container. He is wondering if there are any guidelines or
if anyone has any previous experience with regards to where sounds should
appear. Specifically he is concerned with whether sounds should appear on
roll-overs of buttons or when the buttons are clicked? Does anyone have any
experience with this? Users are power users in a controlled environment
(i.e. they all have speakers etc.) Part of the client team feels that sounds
should appear as people roll-over buttons to draw there attention to the
fact that these are "clickable" (the buttons are often text labels not
visually apparent as buttons, but they all change visually on rollover). The
other half of the client team feels that a clicking sound should happen to
confirm to the user that they have actually clicked on the button (of course
after clicking, the screen changes and this is visually confirmed). Another
compromise suggestion was made that both events should have a clicking
sound, but that they should be different. This just seems confusing and
distracting to me... an animal designed by committee! The final
consideration is what kind of sounds are the most effective. For now there
simply looking at "clicking" sound but the suggestion has been made that
Main section headings get a different sound (a whoosh or something like
that)? I've never run across any of this and he is at a loss as well. Any
thoughts on this?

May thanks on his behalf!
