Call for Papers: Ethics of AI in Human Resources - special issue of Ethics and Information Technology

*Extended* submission deadline: March 5, 2021

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms in human resources (HR) allows for hundreds or thousands of job applications to be sifted and evaluated at the touch of a button. Designers of these systems often claim that they are free of individual prejudice, systematic bias, and are even better at discerning the virtues and vices of applicants. Furthermore, some proponents have even claimed that AI could select candidates using synthetic categories that are capable of better predicting

We are conducting an exciting survey study to determine how users respond to different modes of interaction in an Augmented Reality (AR) environment. You can participate in this study regardless of your knowledge about AR. You can experience what the interaction looks like with the videos that are included in the survey. The survey will take about 20 minutes of your time. Participation is voluntary and strictly anonymous. We will award a $10 e-gift card (Amazon or Starbucks) to randomly selected participants.

Hands-on tutorials may be challenging to organize in an online-only

these times where ever more interaction is becoming remote and
asynchronous. With an engaging hands-on tutorial, we can make a real

Workshop on Transparency and Explanations in Smart Systems (TExSS)

Explainable AI for Fairness and Social Justice

Held in conjunction with ACM Intelligent User Interfaces (IUI) 2021, April 13-17, Virtual.

Algorithms allow the exploitation of rich and varied data sources, in order to support human decision-making and/or taking direct actions; however, there are increasing concerns surrounding their transparency and accountability, as these processes are typically opaque to the user - e.g., because they are too

Hello everyone,

We are conducting an exciting survey study to determine how users respond to different modes of interaction in an Augmented Reality (AR) environment. You can participate in this study regardless of your knowledge about AR. You can experience what the interaction looks like with the videos that are included in the survey. The survey will take about 20 minutes of your time. Participation is voluntary and strictly anonymous. We will award a $10 e-gift card (Amazon or Starbucks) to randomly selected participants.

Unconscious Computing through Emerging Wearable Systems

https://www.mdpi.com/journal/information/special_issues/unconscious_comput_emerging_wearable_syst

Overview
--------
What if future wearable systems would blend information and attentional cues into the perceived surrounding environment in a barely noticeable way, so as to not disturb ongoing thoughts and actions, yet influencing everyday microdecisions of the individual (or group)? This is both a scary and intriguing vision, and emerging wearable technologies are pointing in this direction: personal digital systems designed to communicate to unconscious cognitive processes, thus bypassing reflective thought, with the intention to trigger behavioral change

BACKGROUND AND MOTIVATION
Artificial-intelligence driven models, especially deep learning models, have achieved state-of-the-art results for various natural language processing tasks including sentiment analysis. We get highly accurate predictions using these in conjunction with large datasets, but with little understanding of the internal features and representations of the data that a model uses to classify into sentiment categories.

Recent advances in deep learning approaches to generative AI, such as generative adversarial networks (GANs), variational autoencoders (VAEs), and language models will enable new kinds of user experiences around content creation. These advances have enabled content to be produced with an unprecedented level of fidelity. In many cases, content generated by generative models is either indistinguishable from human-generated content or could not be produced by human hands. We believe that people skilled within

Dear Colleagues,

This special issue addresses technology design for older people (65+) in
two timely and important design scenarios: the COVID-19 pandemic and
Human–Artificial Intelligence (AI) interaction.

The COVID-19 pandemic has focused increased attention on social
isolation and loneliness for all ages, particularly older people as the
most vulnerable, at-risk segment of the population. Many of the
traditional strategies for engaging older adults have become obsolete in
the new normal. Over the course of the pandemic, we have seen evidence
of openly ageist discourses (e.g., #BoomerRemover), which complicates
the experiences of living through COVID-19 for older people. How can

Workshop on Transparency and Explanations in Smart Systems (TExSS)

Explainable AI for Fairness and Social Justice

Held in conjunction with ACM Intelligent User Interfaces (IUI) 2021, April 13-17, College Station (TX), USA.

Smart systems that apply complex reasoning to make decisions and plan behavior, such as decision support systems and personalized recommendations, are difficult for users to understand. Algorithms allow the exploitation of rich and varied data sources, in order to support human decision-making and/or taking direct actions; however, there are increasing concerns surrounding their transparency and accountability, as these processes are typically opaque to the user - e.g., because

Dear All,

I'm one of the SV co-chairs (along with Manoela Silva) for ISMAR 2020.

Many of you know how hard is virtual conferences and the student volunteers
(SVs) are not getting the type of networking that they would normally get.
Many of them will do many hours in exchange for admission, which for many,
is around 50 dollars this year. This is also true for all of our graduate
students (and even faculty) attending conferences in a virtual form.

outdoor spaces, more than ten years of research and development of sensing
technologies have not yet led to a widely available offer of generic and

What is the HRI 2021 Student Design Competition?

The theme of this year for HRI’21 is “Bolder HRI”. Consequently, Alt.HRI
aims to be even bolder, i.e. “Bolder Square.” Alt.HRI track is looking for
the most audacious, creative and thou ght-provoking ideas supported by
rigorous research that does not fit elsewhere. We aim to reach our
colleagues from disciplines that aren't part of the mainstream of HRI yet
and ask for the unexpected, the controversial, the creative, and the
diverse. Alt.HRI 2021 aims to be unexpected, resilient, and bold according
to the 2020ies zeitgeist.
