The Future Conversations workshop at CHIIR’21 looks to the future of search, recommendation, and information interaction to ask: where are the opportunities for conversational interactions? What do we need to do to get there? Who stands to benefit?

The workshop will be hands-on and interactive. Rather than a series of technical talks, we are soliciting position statements on opportunities, problems, and solutions in conversational search in all modalities (written, spoken, or multimodal). We will also solicit responses to these statements, to kick-start discussions at the workshop. Statements and responses can be anonymous if you prefer.

Description

The aim of this workshop is to give researchers from academia and industry the possibility to discuss the inter- and multi- disciplinary nature of the relationships between people and robots towards effective and long-lasting collaborations. This workshop will provide a forum for the HRI and robotics communities to explore successful human-robot interaction (HRI) to analyse the different aspects of HRI that impact its success. A particular focus of this workshop is to explore successful HRI by designing robots: 1) able to autonomously sense and react to the situation, people and the environment by integrating artificial intelligence (AI) techniques; 2)

Virtual reality has finally become a mainstream technology. Recent advances

devices and interaction techniques have arguably not kept pace with
advances in displays. For instance, most HMDs include a tracked input

Dear friends of TEI,

***Sorry for cross-posting***

Due to the ongoing COVID pandemic, TEI 2021 will take place online and
will stretch throughout a full week from Sunday until Friday (February
14–19, 2021) instead of the usual compact Sunday/Monday to Wednesday
conference format. Since an online conference needs to accommodate
participation from all time-zones, TEI2021 will mostly take place live
during daytime within the central European/African time zone, while
providing both live and recorded interactive sessions for American and
Asian participants.

*IEEE VR Workshop on Immersive Sickness Prevention (WISP 2021)*

=== Call for Papers ===

Cybersickness remains one of the most significant challenges facing the
virtual reality industry. Although immersive technologies have been
advancing rapidly, their rate of public adoption has been slowed by the
fact that many users experience physical discomfort during or after the use
of VR devices, with symptomatic characteristics similar to motion sickness.
Furthermore, studies have consistently shown that motion sickness
disproportionately affects women, and concerns have been raised about the
existence of inequitable barriers for engaging with immersive media.

Interactive robots are becoming more commonplace and complex, but their identity has not yet been a key point of investigation. Identity is an overarching concept that combines traits like personality or a backstory (among other aspects) that people readily attribute to a robot to individuate it as a unique entity. Given people’s tendency to anthropomorphize social robots, "who is a robot?" should be a guiding question above and beyond "what is a robot".

Workshop on Emerging Novel Input Devices and Interaction Techniques.
Workshop hosted by IEEE VR 2021, March 27, 2021, Lisbon, Portugal (Virtual)

Virtual reality has finally become a mainstream technology. Recent advances
in commercial VR hardware have led to high-resolution, ergonomic, – and
critically – low cost head-mounted displays. Advances in commercial input
devices and interaction techniques have arguably not kept pace with
advances in displays. For instance, most HMDs include a tracked input
device: “wands” that are not dissimilar to the earliest examples of 3D
controllers used in the VR systems of the

Although the technology has been around for a while, it still does not present interfaces that are easy to use and understand. This workshop aims at bringing HCI and KG communities together to discuss how HCI methods could help identify and overcome the issues that keep Knowledge Graphs from better user interfaces.

About the Research Topic:

Human beings are interactive and socially engaged, as they often gather and communicate in either dyads or groups. During such interactions, each communication partner is providing a variety of information, including general information/content, as well as personal and relational information. These communication aspects and information are truly on display in group interactions or multi-party interactions.

Hello,

The new HRI Podcast episode is available!

Title: There is method to the madness

https://www.human-robot-interaction.org/2020/12/18/there-is-method-to-the-madness/ <https://www.human-robot-interaction.org/2020/12/18/there-is-method-to-the-madness/>

Summary: The success of Human Robot Interaction depends on utilizing our understanding of the interaction between humans and robots in the development of new technology. These new technologies then need to be rigorously tested to proof their benefit. In other words, it is time for an HRI study. In this episode we will discuss some of the major decision you need to make when designing a study with Tony Belpaeme who recently published a book chapter entitled “Advice to new human-robot interaction researchers”.

Dear Colleague.

After receiving many requests for an extension to the deadline, we would like to inform you
that the evaluation of the UbiCARS MDD framework is extended to December 18 2020.

Please spend no more than 10 minutes to evaluate our research project, the UbiCARS

enables developers that are not experts in recommender systems to design and develop
context-aware recommender systems for e-stores and physical retail stores.
The resulting recommender systems use external recommendation algorithms and engines,

Recent advances in deep learning approaches to generative AI, such as
generative adversarial networks (GANs), variational autoencoders (VAEs),
and language models will enable new kinds of user experiences around
content creation. These advances have enabled content to be produced with
an unprecedented level of fidelity. In many cases, content generated by
generative models is either indistinguishable from human-generated content
or could not be produced by human hands.

witnessing as a result of COVID-19 are giving rise to new challenges and
new opportunities for pervasive computing and its researchers. Social
distancing measures are making it harder to conduct lab-based user studies
and in-person observations. Pervasive computing researchers are now faced
with the challenge of designing and conducting controlled user studies
remotely, but

IEEE Sensors Journal Special Issue on

“Advanced Sensors and Sensing Technologies
for indoor positioning and navigation”

https://ieee-sensors.org/sensors-journal/sensors-journal-special-issues/

Many services, such as personal navigation, search and rescue, robot and fleet
management, healthcare would greatly benefit from ubiquitous, accurate, robust
and seamless positioning technologies. While mature GNSS solutions exist for
outdoor spaces, more than ten years of research and development of sensing
technologies have not yet led to a widely available offer of generic and
affordable standard solutions for indoors. Nonetheless, year after year the
insight that researchers
