Dear Colleagues,

EngageCSEdu (http://www.engage-csedu.org<https://www.engage-csedu.org>) publishes high-quality, engaging, classroom-tested Open Educational Resources (OER’s) for computer science education. We seek novel contributions for a special issue on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) resources: http://bit.ly/acmengage-hci. Contributions must be accessible and of interest to teachers at either a secondary or post-secondary level. Resources must have been implemented in an authentic educational environment.

Summer course on Remote Tourism 2021: Exploring human-computer interaction in novel remote tourism concepts

****What’s the topic?****

Not being able to travel is a shame? Come and join us in exploring, designing, and evaluating novel remote tourism experiences in our remote summer course!

As many other countries in the world, Germany has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Early on in this global crisis, we sat and wondered how we could recreate a summer course experience for international students.

Dear All,

Wishing you all a Happy New Year and hope 2021 will open up new avenues to fight the global pandemic together.

Moving on, this mail is to invite researchers and practitioners to attend our workshop, titled: “From the Margins to the Centre: Defining New Mission and Vision for HCI Researchers in South Asia'' <https://hci4south.asia/chi21-workshop/> at CHI2021 <https://chi2021.acm.org/>.

------------------------

CALL FOR PARTICIPATION:

We aim to build ''HCI4SouthAsia'', a strong community of HCI researchers and practitioners who work/will work in the South Asian region (i.e., in and around the countries Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka). As a first step, we are organizing a half-day virtual workshop over the Zoom platform at CHI 2021, titled: “From the Margins to the Centre: Defining New Mission and Vision for HCI Researchers in South Asia''. The primary objective of the workshop is to provide an international platform -- to showcase to the ''center'' -- the research including and beyond development, challenges, experiential information, and field stories, from (marginal) communities across the South Asian Region, and help to collectively build a vision for the community. We invite participants to join our online workshop. The half-day workshop will include three activity-based design sessions encompassing reflection on the past, building a vision, and proposing pathways for realizing the vision.

------------------------

How to Participate?

We invite participants from across the Globe interested in working with and for the South Asian context. Through your participation, we hope to create a collaborative community where we exchange ideas, experiences, and learn from each other.

Interested participants are invited to fill a survey to share details about their research, methods, preliminary or prominent results from their work, and their aspirations from the workshop. Participants will be accepted based on how their responses align with the workshop theme.

There are two deadlines to submit the forms <https://forms.gle/zTvsy84wvxXDr6Jr8>. To gauge the interest and to plan accordingly, we urge the participants to utilize the early deadline.

  • Early deadline: 1st February 2021

  • Regular deadline: 1st March 2021

More details about the workshop can be found at http://hci4south.asia  and https://twitter.com/HCI4SouthAsia

------------------------

Participation Cost:

Our workshop will be held online. To attend the workshop, each participant will be required to register for the workshop. The registration cost for the workshop will be USD 15.00 to USD 30.00 for one participant.

Participants can request fee waivers or reimbursement for their participation. While we can not confirm this for all participants, we plan to provide a limited number of fee waivers to students/early career researchers’ registration fees for the workshop. Preference will be given to participants from emerging markets, South Asia, and the Global South.

---

Warm Regards

HCI4SouthAsia Team
