The CORE ranking provides a classification of conferences in computer science, see: portal.core.edu.au/conf-ranks <http://portal.core.edu.au/conf-ranks>. PODC and DISC are currently being re-evaluated and are facing the danger of being downgraded, which could have a negative academic impact on the members of our community. To support keeping PODC and DISC's high rankings, we are preparing a submission containing evidence as to the achievements of researchers in our community. We are asking the senior members of our community to provide information that we can use in order to exemplify that the current rankings are appropriate.

Dear all,

PODC 2020 features a senior-junior meeting, a valuable mentoring experience
providing the opportunity for junior people to engage with senior people
in their research area. In this way, junior people will be given the chance
to talk with senior people, receive advice and support, and get informed
about how a senior researcher would cope with situations that may be
of interest. PODC 2020 Senior-Junior meetings will take place in the
following four slots:

Multiple PhD positions in distributed computing are open at Telecom

RESEARCH TOPICS

Maintaining consistency and availability of data in a dynamic
distributed system subject to hardware failures and security attacks is
one of the most important problems in computing. The plethora of
recently proposed blockchains implementing public, totally-ordered
”ledgers of transactions" address this problem in a system where
multiple mutually distrusting users share data and exchange assets, and
some users may cheat and collude. The service, however, must be
consistent and available to the honest users. Research questions to be
tackled

Edsger Wybe Dijkstra (1930-2002), a pioneer in the area of
distributed computing. His seminal works on concurrency primitives
(such as semaphores), concurrency problems (such as mutual
exclusion and deadlock), finding shortest paths in graphs,
fault-tolerance, and self-stabilization are important foundations
upon which the field of distributed computing is built.

Machine learning is applied today in a wide range of applications from self-driving cars to recommenders. While many works in the area have focused on improving the quality of machine learning algorithms, we believe that efficient ML goes with revisiting system issues with respect to storage, computation, distribution, failure resilience and privacy. The selected postdoc researcher will work towards the design and implementation of efficient distributed systems for ML in collaboration with PhD students and international collaborators.

Dear Distributed Computing Community,

I'd like to follow up on the topic of possibly moving to multiple
submission deadlines per year, which was briefly mentioned at the DISC
business meeting. This would address the issue that PODC and DISC
deadlines are fairly close to each other, leaving a very large gap
between DISC and PODC without good choices for DC submissions. In
addition, this would provide more flexibility regarding when to hold the
conferences. In particular, we could consider colocating DC conferences
with the goal of reducing overall travel and, by extension, ecological
footprint of our activities.

Large-scale distributed storage systems play an important role in the
modern world, and their consistent and efficient operation is crucial.
The prominent blockchain technology aims at implementing a public

an open set of participating processes, with no static membership. In a
static or properly reconfigurable system, the problem is typically
solved using consensus-based state-machine replication algorithms, such
