------------------------------------------------
Although at its core software design is a creative problem process, in the
software engineering domain it has seldom been contextualised as such. This
workshop aims to explore the challenges and benefits of placing software
design within the broader context of creative design and creative problem
solving. Such benefits include borrowing methodologies from design studies,
as well as existing tools and methods for supporting creative problem
solving, while the challenge is to adapt these methods and tools to the
specific aspects of software design.
The workshop will serve as a forum for exchanging ideas and aims to address
the following topics:
- Innovative methods for creative problem solving in software design process
- Novel techniques for creative requirements engineering
- Individual and group creativity in software design
- Tools supporting creative thinking in software design
- Case studies on innovative software design practices
- Challenges of investigating creativity in software design
Workshop format
This one day workshop will offer an interdisciplinary forum of discussion
for both software developers and academics in fields like software
engineering, HCI, creative problem solving or psychology of programming. The
workshop will begin with brief individual presentations, and will include
problem-based group learning activities, group presentation and full-group
discussion of results.

Submission
Submissions should be sent to Corina Sas at corina @ comp.lancs.ac.uk in the
ACM format of 4-6 page position papers describing case studies of fully
developed or just prototype systems for creativity in software design.
Theoretical approaches to design challenges for such systems are also
welcomed. Participants will be selected on the basis of the originality of
their position paper, and contribution to the workshop goals. Papers will be
blindly reviewed by two reviewers and at least one author of accepted papers
needs to register for the workshop.
After the workshop, participants will be invited to prepare an extended
version of position paper to be submitted for publication in a special issue
of a journal.
Important dates
Deadline for submissions: Friday 15 April
Notification of acceptance: Friday 20 May
