The CHI 2002 Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems has for
the first time an interactive online forum.

      http://www.chiplace.org/

The site (CHIplace) is intended to let people interested or working in
CHI to influence, to comment on proposals for, and to preview offerings
for the venues occurring at CHI 2002 (e.g., tutorial topics). You can
check out the goals page for more detail:

      http://www.chiplace.org/info/goals.jsp

We are planning to provide a new section on CHIplace called HCI
organizational overviews that introduces HCI activities occurring in our
participant's organizations, e.g., industrial research labs, research
group at universities, or special interest groups. It is similar to the
Organizational Overview presentations at past CHI conferences.

Does your organization have HCI-related activities (e.g., research,
design, or development)? If so, we invite you to write an organization
overview highlighting these activities. Please see this page for more
detail:

For questions like:
 * Does anyone know of a tool to improve accessibility?
 * I need a questionnaire to screen potential users.
 * Has anyone applied GOMS to ATMs?
 * Are there any guidelines for portable phones?
 * How can I convince my managers that usability testing is worthwhile?

[log in to unmask] is a new open discussion list for user interface:
 * researchers
 * practitioners
 * designers
 * producers

chi-Methods Focuses on the methods used for user interface:
 * analysis
 * design
 * implementation
 * evaluation
Discussions can include qualitative and quantitative
methods, guidelines, standards, and tools. Target users
can be general or special populations.

CHI 2002 is still accepting volunteers to review several of its
submission categories. If you are interested, please check out
the CHI Reviewer Volunteer Center (RVC) at

http://www.sigchi.org/volunteers/rvcenter.html

*July 18* is the deadline for volunteering to review PAPERS.

All members of the HCI community are invited to volunteer.
If you have never reviewed for the CHI conference before
(or have not done so recently), you can *SIGN UP* at the
RVC by simply providing your email address. Further details
will arrive by email.

If you reviewed for CHI 2001, then you already received your
invitation for CHI 2002 back in May. That email contained
your new log in instructions for the RVC. If you cannot find
those instructions, you can GET A *REMINDER* sent to you at
the RVC.

You will NOT automatically be accepted as a reviewer just by
signing up and filling in your profile. Technical program
chairs will review all of the volunteers in their pools and
select the set of people that best fits their needs.

Many CHI 2002 submissions are due in mid-September, with
reviews expected back in mid-October. Later submissions
are due in December with reviews due in January. If you are
selected as a reviewer, you will get specific information
about what is expected of you.

If you have any problems signing up or logging in to the
Reviewer Volunteer Center, feel free to contact me at
         [log in to unmask]

Finally, many people will be too busy to review for CHI 2002
but would like to be contacted when it is time to volunteer
for CHI 2003. If you can log in and quickly make sure your
contact information is correct, you will be kept in the RVC
and notified for CHI 2003 next year.
