The CHI 2005 conference theme points at the challenge for technology
to make people feel safe again, and to support a safe community worldwide.

Recent events and developments have scared many people away from
technology. For example, in parts of the world people are reluctant to
fly and in other parts they are reluctant to provide the personal
information that is requested for being allowed to fly.
Technology should be designed in such a way that it reinforces community
and allows people to feel safe again. This is one of the major challenges
to the CHI community for the development of complex interactive information
systems. Hence, the CHI 2005 focus is on the relations between Safety,
Technology, and Community.

We invite submissions for papers, workshops, tutorials, posters, design
case studies, interactive exhibits, and much more.
Changes for 2005 include a new 40-minute Panel session, the Interactivity
Chamber, and a revamped Tutorial program. We are looking for student
volunteers from all over the world.
The Early Submissions Deadline (for Papers, Panels, Interactivity, and
Workshop proposals) is September 13, 2004.
