CALL FOR WORKSHOPS - OZCHI 2000
Workshops
Submissions are solicited for workshops on any topic within human-computer
interaction broadly defined. Workshops are one day, or half day, events at
which participants explore particular research topics. A workshop should
have specific objectives, raise stimulating issues, and aim to report its
activity as a conference poster or subsequent publication. Workshops provide
a valuable means to bring together new and emerging communities of academic
researchers and practitioners. OZCHI 2000 will provide excellent facilities
for workshops to meet on the days prior to the main conference. The number
of participants should be somewhere between 10 and 30. Submissions for
workshops should outline the topic, the specific objectives of the event,
the format of planned activities, and the method of disseminating the
workshop's results to a wider audience. The deadline for submission is May
29th, 2000 in electronic format (preferred) and June 5th in paper format.
Please refer to the detailed instructions for authors.

Guide for Authors - Workshops
Purpose
Workshops provide an excellent opportunity for academics and practitioners
to discuss new and emerging themes in HCI. They play an important role for
the HCI community, by identifying and promoting exciting new developments.
The topic of a workshop may be theoretical or applied and may relate to any
area within the broad field of HCI.

A successful workshop is one that has a clearly defined purpose, addresses
issues of importance for the HCI community and attracts participants who
bring significant knowledge and experience to the discussion. Furthermore,
it should be able to report its outcomes to a wider audience. Your
submission should demonstrate that the proposed workshop has all of these
qualities.

Workshops will be held on December 4th and 5th, 2000 in Sydney.

Format, Style and Content
A workshop submission has three parts: a technical outline, an extended
abstract, and a call for participation.

(i) Technical outline
The technical outline should describe, in no more than three pages, the
following:
- the topic
- the names, experience and background of the author(s) both in the topic
area, and in organizing workshops or similar events
- the plan for workshop activities, detailing what those activities are and
providing a provisional schedule
- the expected number of participants (with a range) and the names of any
specific people to be invited
- the plan for disseminating the results of the workshop (at minimum, this
should include a poster for OZCHI 2000)

(ii) Extended abstract
A one-page extended abstract of 500 -1000 words should be provided, with
author name and affiliation shown, and suitable for inclusion in the
conference proceedings. The format should be that for full paper
submissions, available on http://www.cmis.csiro.au/ozchi2000/ from the end
of April 2000.

(iii) Call For Participation
A 250-word call for participation should be provided, suitable for
publication in the conference programme. This should outline the topic of
the workshop in a clear and stimulating manner, and clearly explain the
application process. It should also provide the criteria for deciding on
acceptance to the workshop. The names, affiliations and contact details of
the workshop leaders should be included.

Submission and Review Process
Submissions for workshops should be sent as email attachments in PC Word
document format to [log in to unmask]
