-- Call for Submissions: Organisational Overviews - HCI 2000
http://osiris.sunderland.ac.uk/~hci2000/

Key Dates
Submissions should arrive by the 15th of May, 2000.
Notification of acceptance will be by 12th of June, 2000.

Organisational Overviews provide summaries of HCI work taking place in
organisations.
Overviews may describe HCI work in university, corporate, or government
research groups or institutions; product development or consultancy
organisations;
countries or geographical regions; collaborative efforts involving several
groups or
organisations; or partnerships of different types of groups, or groups
cooperating across
geographical, political, or cultural boundaries.

The emphasis is on the circumstances and context within which this work is
occurring, focusing on the underlying goals, policies, and organisational
background,
and perspectives of past, present and future HCI efforts. Of interest is the
big picture: how
did a group come into being; how do the participants influence each other as
well as other
groups with whom they are affiliated; the group's plans and visions for the
future; and the
basis for these plans.
Organisational Overviews provide a contrast to presentations that spotlight
a restricted number of technically or scientifically interesting results.

Attendees of the presentations should be able to see the shared perspectives
between groups despite different cultural, organisational, and geographical
backgrounds in order to foster future collaborations and affect work within
HCI in the upcoming
century.

Review Criteria
Submissions will be reviewed independently by a multidisciplinary group
drawn from industry and academia. Reviews will consider the:
level of interest that members of the HCI community will have in the
work
extent to which the overview informs the HCI community of current HCI
activity
ways in which future HCI innovations are envisaged
potential of the work for stimulating co-operation and collaboration
within the HCI
     community.

Format
Prepare a two-page camera-ready extended abstract of the Organisational
Overview. It must be in the Conference Publications Format. An electronic
submission
should also be sent as a PDF file by email (see the web pages for this
format). This is
optional, but will greatly assist the reviewing process. If you are unable
to send a PDF file please contact us to make alternative arrangements.

The extended abstract should include: HCI domains addressed by the
organisation's work focus, themes, major processes, organisational setting,
history, and future
plans, people involved (e.g. number and backgrounds), specific projects
and/or special
approaches key publications, products, or other results

Your submission must be in English. Your submission should contain no
proprietary or confidential material and should cite no proprietary or
confidential
publications.
Responsibility for permissions to use video, audio, or pictures of
identifiable people rests
with you, not HCI 2000.

Upon Acceptance
Extended abstracts of accepted submissions will be published in Volume 2 of
the HCI 2000 Conference Proceedings.

At the conference, the overview should be presented by a major participant
in the work and based on the material described in the extended abstract.
Organisational
Overviews are 30 minute presentations, including 5 minutes for questions.
