Alan - I disagree. Perhaps if you're a speedy touch typist, web works well.
But for a hunt-and-peck typist, www saves major amounts of time. It makes
the web easier for non tech-types.

Of course, we all know that we should set up websites so users can type
either site.com or www.site.com. This is the best solution of all...
