3rd UK-UbiNet Workshop
Designing, evaluating and using ubiquitous computing systems
9-11 February 2005
University of Bath
UK-UbiNet is an EPSRC funded network of research in the U.K. in the area of
Ubiquitous Computing. One of the main means of exchanging information in
UK-UbiNet is workshops and conferences. The aim is to make these conferences
as open and as inclusive as possible in order to foster growth of the
research community. The community covers many aspects of research into
ubiquitous computing, including networks, sensors, distributed systems,
interaction, social factors, security and theory.
This workshop follows successful workshops in September 2003 and May 2004.
This 3rd workshop aims to examine issues and research in the design,
evaluation and use of ubiquitous computing systems. It will provide an
overview of research in these areas within the UK, and support collaboration
between different groups in the research community.
Submissions are invited across a range of relevant topics including:
Public, social & private use of ubiquitous computing systems;
Ubiquitous computing, urban design & architecture;
Human-computer interaction with ubiquitous systems: interfaces &
Evaluating ubiquitous computing systems;
Theories & frameworks for ubiquitous computing;
Designing ubiquitous computing systems;
Context awareness: beyond location sensing;
Current & future technologies for ubiquitous computing.
Papers should be one or two pages in length, describing a research project
(either completed, in-progress or yet-to-start). Authors of accepted papers
will be invited to present a ten minute talk on their project and
participate in a panel discussion at the end of the session.
Submissions of position papers (up to 2 pages) should be in PDF format.
Please email these to [log in to unmask] (using the subject line
"UK-UbiNet"), noting clearly the class of submission and which topic it is
The deadline for submissions is 1 December 2004. Notice of decisions will
be provided by 20 December 2004.
The workshop will be held over three days (afternoon of 9th to morning of
11th February 2005) at the University of Bath. The programme will consist of
eight sessions covering a series of topics, based on the topics suggested
above. Each session will open with an invited overview by a leading
researcher in the field, followed by two selected presentations describing
research projects in this area. These presentations will describe both
research visions and actual experience and the sessions will be completed
with a panel discussion. There will also be plenty of time for debate and
Space is limited and registration closes at 10:00am on Wednesday 2 February
2005, so please book as soon as possible.
