****CALL FOR CHAPTER PROPOSALS****

Proposal Submission Deadline: April 30, 2008

Tourism Informatics: Visual Travel Recommender Systems,
Social Communities and User Interface Design

A book edited by Dr. Nalin Sharda, Victoria University, Australia

Introduction:
-------------
Tourism Informatics (or eTourism) is a multi-billion dollar international
industry; it is also one of the biggest users of web technologies and
constantly
adopts innovative ideas to enhance its market penetration. Two innovations that
have made significant impact are Travel Recommender Systems (TRS), and Social
Communities developing around tourism web logs (Blog). Some of the key
challenges that predicate further research and innovations include information
visualization and user interface design. Many visualization methodologies
available today -- including still pictures, animations, videos, virtual
reality, and augmented reality -- will lead to new ways for tourists to
visualize and plan their trips. However, good user interface design is
extremely
important for maximizing the benefits derived from any tourism information
system. Much research and development is being undertaken in these areas and
much more is in the offing.

Aim and Objectives of the Book:
-------------------------------
This book aims to provide the current state of knowledge, research results,
and innovations in Tourism Informatics, with focus on Visual Travel Recommender
Systems, Social Communities and the User Interface Design. The main objectives
of this book are to provide a cohesive coverage of cutting-edge eTourism
systems
and directions for future research and development in this domain. It will
cover
three important aspects of eTourism systems: technical, business and social.
Some of the chapters will focus on a particular aspect while others will
explore
the interaction between these three aspects, and their impact on the future
developments in Tourism Informatics.

Target Audience:
----------------
The target audience of this book will include users, developers, and
researchers working with Tourism Informatics, i.e. eTourism systems. This book
may also be used as reference for advanced courses in Tourism Informatics.

Recommended areas include, but are not limited to, the following:
-----------------
o Travel Recommender Systems (TRS)
   Technical aspects of TRS
   Business aspects of TRS
   Social aspects of TRS

Submission Procedure:
---------------------
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before April 30,
2008, a 2-3 page chapter proposal articulating the following.

Title: A 5-15 word title clearly conveying the chapter coverage.

Focus: A brief description of the chapter focus: e.g. Current state of
knowledge in .../ Research outcomes in .../ Innovative ideas in .../ Technical
aspects of .../ Business aspects of .../ Social Aspects of .../ etc.

Aim: A 2-3 sentence description of what the chapter aims to deliver.

Knowledge areas: A 3-5 paragraph description of the areas of knowledge the
chapter will cover and how these will be linked; highlight the main knowledge
areas as dot points.

Author(s) address: Title, Department, Institution, Mail address, Phone, Fax,
Email, and Web page.

Authors of accepted proposals will be notified by May 31, 2008 about the
status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines. Full chapters are
expected to be submitted by August 31, 2008. All accepted chapters will be
reviewed on a double-blind review basis. The book is scheduled to be published
by IGI Global (formerly Idea Group Inc.), www.igi-global.com, publisher of the
Information Science Reference (formerly Idea Group Reference) and Medical
Information Science Reference imprints.
