PhD Scholarships in HCI
The University of Melbourne
Department of Information Systems

The University of Melbourne offers scholarships to outstanding students from
Australia and abroad wishing to pursue higher degrees by research in the
field of HCI, Interaction Design and User Experience. They include the
Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA) and the Melbourne Research Scholarships
(MRS) for Australian and New Zealand citizens, and the International
Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS) and Melbourne International
Research Scholarships (MIRS) for international applicants.

Students with a background in HCI or cognate disciplines are encouraged to
apply. For Australian applicants we require either at least a 2A honours or
a research masters degree. International students will be considered on the
basis of equivalent standing of prior studies.

We are active in most areas of HCI, but especially keen to recruit in:

- engagement and interactivity in e-government self-service
- mediating communication amongst distributed families
- modelling (task, user, use context...) to better inform design
- personal and/or emergency task management
- product design and user experience
- using mobile devices to assist smoking cessation

Information on our research group and activities can be obtained from
http://www.dis.unimelb.edu.au/interactiondesign/index.html. Students who
wish to apply should review this site, and firstly contact the person who's
interests most closely match their own.

Australian and New Zealand citizens should then follow these 2 steps:
1) contact the School of Graduate Studies for PhD application forms and
further information: call (03) 8344 8599, send email to
