Second call for papers -  CONTENT REPURPOSING

A Special Issue of IEEE Multimedia

Deadline for Submissions: abstract - 3 Feb 2003, full paper - 3 March 2003.

Until recently there were a select few ways of accessing online content-mainly accessing the Web through PCs. This situation is changing rapidly, though. The range of access devices today includes Internet-enabled cell phones, PDAs, desktop, laptop and wearable PCs, and set-top boxes. There are more than 600 different device profiles available for accessing online content! These devices are connected through a wide variety of networks that include slow-speed wireless, 2.5/3 G wireless, dial-up and local area wired and wireless, and high-speed wired networks. As before, the issue of usage scenarios (age and gender of the user, time available, and prior knowledge of the subject matter) continues to exist.
Handcrafting content for each device, network, and usage, as well as each of their combinations is just not manageable. Among other problems, this approach is too expensive, takes too much time, and leads to multiple, inconsistent versions of the content. Content repurposing tackles this problem by taking content designed for a particular scenario and automatically repurposing it to fit another. Fundamental to this approach is the need to maintain a single copy of the content in its original form and to repurpose the content to fit the desired scenario in real-time and in an automated fashion. 
IEEE Multimedia invites paper submissions for a special issue focused on the challenges, architectures, technology, and tools for content repurposing. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
*       Content analysis to aid repurposing 
*       Content description schemes 
*       Content tagging for repurposing 
*       Content repurposing techniques 
*       Techniques for maintaining the semantic and syntactic integrity of content 
*       Authoring for device and network independence 
*       Architectures to support content repurposing for universal access 
*       Personalization and accessibility 
*       Content distillation for repurposing
