A couple of years ago, I wrote a poem to draw attention to the problems
of out-of-office replies during the festive season:

'Twas the week before Christmas and all through the list,
Many authors of postings were shaking their fists.
Their in-trays were full of replies auto-sent,
From subscribers who failed to suspend 'fore they went.
To avoid causing grief to all when you go,
please remember to follow the instructions below.

Unfortunately my poetic talents, meagre even then, have completely left
me. Here's the proof:

Rudolph the red-nose reindeer had a very busy list...

Good King Wenceslas looked out, at his many emails...

To spare list members the agony of me finishing one of these, I'd like
to suggest a competition to come up with this year's witty ditty. Here
are the rules:

Entries should

1) be in the spirit of the festive season (Christmas, Hanukkah,
Yuletide, etc.)
2) draw attention to the pitfalls of turning on out-of-office replies
without first changing you CHI-WEB subscription.

That's it. Send entries to me by replying to this email and I will post
all of them next week. The moderators will select a winner which will be
announced at the same time.

In the meantime, if you are even thinking of turning your out-of-office
replies on, please read on:
