Call for Participation: Participatory Design Conference and Workshops
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2006 Participatory Design Conference: Expanding Boundaries in Design
Trento, Italy, August 1-5, 2006

The conference has 3 days of technical program and 2 full days with a
wide range of workshops to choose from . The program is online at
http://www.pdc2006.org/
This year 15 full papers (single track) and 18 exploratory short papers
(parallel tracks) have been selected for presentation with a wide range
of topics related to PD - from experiences with design games,
development of museum installations, case studies of dental practice,
health care to exploring the role of PD in Tanzania and India. The theme
'Expanding Boundaries in Design' focuses attention on the multiple
contexts in which design takes place and on an expanding range of
possible design outcomes.

Workshop Program
-----------------------------

PDC 2006 offers an exciting and varied programme of workshops.
Contributions range from hands on explorations of methodological
innovations, to the production of participatory TV broadcasts and
artworks. There are discussions of the importance of boundaries, the
relationships between international development, e-democracy and
participatory design, and sessions where participants are invited to
write, review and explore position papers, e.g. on the participatory
design of CSCW technologies in healthcare. We received and accepted 17
high-calibre proposals from applicants in academia, art, non-profit
organisations (Overseas Development Institute), and industry (the BBC,
IDEO, Pitney Bowes).

Registration
---------------

Early Bird Registration deadline for the overall conference is the 15th
of June with fees for students, CPSR-members and others. Registration
for workshops coincides with this deadline.

The requirements for participating in workshops differ: Some workshops
ask for a position paper, others (for purposes of planning) require
sending a statement of interest. Deadline for most of these is the 7th
of June, details can be inquired from the workshop webpage.
Participation incurs a fee of 25 Euros (this is to cover catering and
equipment costs). It is necessary to register for the conference to
register for a workshop.
