September 15 is the early registration deadline for the eclectic Hawaii
International Conference on Systems Sciences, January 3-6 on the Big
Island.

Minitracks that may be of particular interest to CHI people include a
new one on emerging technologies (organized by Dan Russell and Jonathan
Grudin) and the successful persistent conversation minitrack (organized
by Susan Herring and Tom Erickson). Topics include weblogs, mashups, IM,
World of Warcraft, studies of Wikipedia, Web 2.0, tagging on
del.icio.us. Paper authors include many familiar from CHI and CSCW, as
well as some from other research communities. A half-day workshop is
associated with the persistent conversation minitrack. A critical mass
of solid material in these minitracks may help turn the corner on HICSS
quality perception issues.
