CBMS 2012 - The 25th IEEE / ACM International Symposium on Computer-Based Medical Systems
20-22 June 2012, Rome, Italy

SPECIAL TRACK on "Collaboration and Technology-Mediated Communication in Healthcare"
Revised SUBMISSION DEADLINE - FEBRUARY 10th 2012
www.cs.tcd.ie/~luzs/ctmc2012/

Communication, Teamwork, Interaction and Mobility are terms we have
come to associate with healthcare work. Communication can be
synchronous or asynchronous, coupled and often mediated by multimedia
technology. The challenge of co-ordination and supporting co-operation
in these work settings is an on-going problem for designers and
developers. Co-ordination of information among teams and between
institutional settings is critical for efficient and effective
healthcare delivery.

In this economic climate, we are especially challenged to find more
efficient and effective methods of delivering services. We are
provoked to provide novel approaches to help to control disease and
maintain a healthy population. A range of technologies have the
potential for hospitals, teams, and individuals to reconfigure their
traditional practices in new and effective ways.

We invite reports on significant unpublished work in the area of
computer-support for co-operative work in healthcare, with particular
emphasis on design and technology applications for interaction among
medical specialists, and between medical specialists and
patients. Research on support for collaboration among medical,
nursing, scientific, ancillary staff and patients is encouraged,
including case studies or incident reports.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

Collaboration between individuals
Co-ordination of Information
Ward rounds
Team working
Meeting support
Consultations
Shift handover
Speech and Language in communication
Teaching/Learning
Shared displays
Technology-mediated communication
Remote collaboration
Visual communication environments
Intense collaborative environments
Collaborative writing note-taking
Carer - Patient collaboration
Computer support for co-operative healthcare work

Submissions to this special track on Collaboration and
Technology-Mediated Communication in Healthcare, will be done
electronically via the CBMS web submission system, which will open
approximately one month before the deadline January 15th, 2012.
Prospective authors should simply choose the Special Track title
"Collaboration and Technology-Mediated Communication in Healthcare"
when submitting a paper to this track.

No hardcopy submissions will be accepted. Electronic submission of
original research papers will only be accepted in PDF format,
observing the IEEE guidelines and formatting instructions for full
papers.

Authors should refer to the general webpage of CBMS 2012 for
submission guidelines

All papers will be peer reviewed by at least three independent
referees. Accepted papers will be included in the conference
proceedings

Authors of selected papers will be invited to submit extended versions
for a Special Issue of the Journal of Behaviour and Information
Technology on Collaboration and Technology-Mediated Communication in
Healthcare.
