Welcome to the IS-EUD 2013 in Copenhagen!

May 9th, the early registration deadline, is fast approaching! Register
early to benefit of the discounted registration rates. The registration
site is available from http://iseud.net/, where you also find the program
as well as other information about the IS-EUD 2013 and practical
information regarding traveling to and staying in Copenhagen.

We have 2 very exciting *keynotes speakers*:

*Mary Beth Rosson: **Evolutionary Design of a Developmental Learning
Community*

Mary Beth Rosson, professor at the College of Information Sciences and
Technology of the Pennsylvania State University, is internationally known
for her research and education in human-computer interaction, including
participatory and scenario-based design and evaluation methods,
computer-supported collaborative learning, and end-user development.

*Pelle Ehn: The End of the User – The Computer as a Thing*
Pele Ehn, professor at the School of Arts and Communication, Malmö
University, Sweden, has for 4 decades (!) been involved in the research
field of participatory design. Projects include DEMOS from the seventies on
information technology and work place democracy, UTOPIA from the eighties
on user participation and skill based design, ATELIER from the last decade
on architecture and technology for creative environments, and during the
last years Malmö Living Labs, on open design environments for social
innovation.

 *About the program:*

End User Development relates two traditions that made Copenhagen famous in
the computing field: The idea that users can be part of configuring,
customizing and assembling their software tools and environments is by many
of the End User Development researchers seen as a natural extension to
Participatory Design. From a programming language point of view this
requires the development of languages and programming environments that can
be used by non-IT professionals.

In the program of the 2013 End User Development International Symposium,
the two traditions meet. Some contributions focus on the development of
domain specific languages, e.g. for the insurance domain. Others explore
community collaboration in the shaping of technology. The conference
provides multiple opportunities for exploring the complementarity and
interdependency of the two perspectives on End-User Development.

Welcome!

Yvonne Dittrich, Margaret Burnett, Anders Mørch, David Redmiles
