DESCRIPTION:
The course gives an introduction to CSCW and CSCL. It focuses on the intersection of the
two fields: Computer supported cooperative work and learning (CSCW/L). Themes addressed
are. From HCI: interfaces supporting learning, design rationale and argumentation.
From CSCW: groupware and cooperation, time/place matrix, intersubjectivity, awareness.
From CSCL: creating knowledge together, Vygotsky’s social learning theory, scaffolding,
formal vs. informal learning, Fischer concept of learning-on-demand, computer-based
critiquing and pedagogical agents, collaboration and learning in virtual worlds.
