Hi all,

Sorry for this mildly off-topic post.

Many members of this list are, I'm sure, also regular readers of comp.lang.ada. I'm trying to figure out the best way to read this and other technical Usenet groups. I'm doing this from my home Mac, which is also my office Mac since I retired from GW and moved to Portland.

I can log into GW's engineering server and read newsgroups in a 24x80 terminal window. Needless to say, this is rather clunky.

I can reach comp.lang.ada in groups.google.com; the UI there is better, but still difficult to keep track of threads.

I recently discovered nntp.aioe.org, which allowed me to use the nice threaded-message news interface in SeaMonkey (a.k.a. the Mozilla integrated suite). But this site has been unreachable for the last several days; I'm wondering if it has disappeared, or is just temporarily down.

A google search for free news servers turns up a lot of dead links and ephemeral sites; the emphasis seems to be on binary sites that allow large (and anonymous) transfers. I surmise the users are mainly interested in audio/video files and porn, not merely the relatively brief text messages we see in the technical groups.

So friends, how do y'all read c.l.a.? What do you recommend? We can take the discussion offline ([log in to unmask]) if you don;t want to continue an off-topic hread here.

Thanks for your help!

Mike Feldman
