The Advance Conference Program of the 3rd ACM International Conference on Digital Interactive Media in Entertainment and Arts (DIMEA 2008), that will take place on September 10-12, 2008, at Athens Information Technology's premises in Athens, Greece, has been published online at the Conference Web site at http://hermes.ait.gr/dimea2008/?technical-program,18

The Advance Program includes numerous opportunities provided by DIMEA 2008 to its participants to gain significant know-how and experience through a rich pool of parallel organized events to attend. Innovations, new research approaches and practices will be presented in focused technical oral sessions, which will offer a wide coverage of the DIMEA 2008 scientific and technological areas, including edutainment, games, interactive storytelling, digital art, enhanced visualization, collaboration spaces, virtual and augmented reality, advanced interaction, etc. 

Special Sessions
----------------
Two Special Sessions in the areas of User Centric and Personalised Multimedia Service Platforms and Mobile Mixed Reality Games and a Technical Workshop on: Pervasive Awareness applications: addressing their Aesthetic and Ludic aspects will further enrich the conference technical program.

Keynote Talks
-------------
Participants will further have the unique opportunity to benefit from Keynote Talks given by internationally distinguished speakers, such as Prof. Nadia Magnenat-Thalmann, Miralab, University of Geneva, Dr. Roberto Cencioni, Head of Unit INFSO.E2 Content and Knowledge, European Commission, Dr. Ioannis Mihalou(di)s, Visual Artist and Prof. Michael Meimaris, University of Athens.

Digital Art and Entertainment Exhibition
----------------------------------------
The conference will in parallel host a Digital Art and Entertainment Exhibition including innovative digital interactive rich-media works in art and entertainment. The exhibition will be open to the conference participants during 10-12 September, 2008 and to all interested visitors during September 13-14, 2008.

Tutorials
---------
High quality selected half-day Tutorials given by distinguished speakers in the respective fields will offer further opportunities for a wider exposure to and appreciation of the challenges presented by the convergence of Arts, Entertainment and Digital Interactive Media Technologies. Tutorials will be multi-thematic, namely:

  1.. Inside and Outside the UpStage: Live Participative On-line Cyberformance, Tutorial speakers: Miljana Peric, University of Arts Belgrade, Serbia and Helen Varley Jamieson, Queensland University of Technology, Australia 
  2.. Authoring Tools for Web Comics, Tutorial speakers: Symeon Retalis, Petros Georgiakakis, M. Boloudakis, J. Arapoglou, University of Pireaus, Greece 
  3.. User Experience Design for Interactive TV, Tutorial speakers: Konstantinos Chorianopoulos, Ionian University, Greece, Pablo Cesar, CWI, the Netherlands 
  4.. Developing a videogame: from concept to your TV, Tutorial speakers: Kostas Anagnostou, Ionian University, Greece 
  5.. Developing play tactics in the Web 2.0 era, Tutorial speakers: Daphne Dragona, Ilias Marmaras, Greece

Hands-on Workshops
------------------
Further opportunities offered to the participants include two half-day hands-on Workshops, one organized at the Foundation of the Hellenic World premises, namely:

1.. "Employment of tilted hemispherical projection surface for creating large audience immersive environment ", Organizers: Vaggelis Christodoulou, FHW and Abraham Onasiadis, FHW. This workshop will take place at the Foundation of the Hellenic World premises (Tholos), http://www.fhw.gr 

2.. "Encyclopedia as a creative platform", Organizers: Prof. Eleni Glinou, TEI of Athens, Greece and Katerina Antonaki, Media Artist.

Both Tutorials and Hands-on Workshops will provide a unique opportunity especially to students, young researchers and practitioners to explore and develop their research interests or artistic practices in focused areas of recent practices of high interest. Industrial Exhibition

Finally, the DIMEA 2008 Industrial Exhibition will establish the link between research and the market, allowing for fast adoption of research results by the industry and an opportunity for industry representatives and researchers to meet and discuss on collaboration prospects. 


Call for Participation

DIMEA 2008 will thus bring together students, academics, technologists, artists, designers, practitioners and industry representatives from all over the world, to meet, discuss and share opinions and practices. 

The scientific conference program will be complemented by a rich social conference program.
