                      Pervasive 2010 Workshop on
Energy Awareness and Conservation through Pervasive Applications

Monday 17 May 2010, Helsinki, Finland

                  Submission deadline: 1st February 2010

Call for Position Papers

Energy conservation is a growing area of interest for pervasive computing.
Recently the problem of conserving energy through involvement of consumers
has become topical. The multidisciplinary challenges for pervasive
applications are numerous, including pervasive sensing of energy
consumption, energy efficient infrastructures for sensing energy and users,
and designing engaging applications that do not disrupt but support everyday
activities.

This workshop follows a number of previous workshops on sustainability as a
general theme at Ubicomp and Pervasive conferences. This is the first
workshop focused on energy awareness and conservation that brings together
research excellence from Far East (Japan) and Europe.

This workshop follows a number of previous workshops on sustainability as a
general theme at Ubicom, Pervasive conferences. This is the first workshop
focused on energy awareness and conservation that brings together excellence
of research from Far East (Japan with the co-organisation of University of
Waseda) and North and South Europe.

Workshop topics and objectives:

    * Pervasive sensing of energy consumption. How to analyze detailed
electrical devices data but also connecting it to people’s actions? How to
model the domain to inform the design of software and analysis of data?
    * Energy efficient infrastructures for sensing energy and users. The
energy efficient design of such application is key to ensure the feasibility
of conservation projects. The problem is how to sense, communicate , and
compute in this area in an energy efficient way?
    * Pervasive interfaces including natural/ambient and mobile
applications. What interface technologies and platform best deliver energy
awareness applications?
    * Informed design of applications. Understanding people awareness
cognitive models and social practices. How to design engaging applications
that do not disrupt but support everyday activities?

Submission Guidelines
Who should attend: This full-day workshop will be of interest to
researchers, designers and
practitioners concerned with energy awareness in ubiquitous and pervasive
systems.
Participation in the workshop requires the submission of a position paper.
Submission format: Position Papers can be up to 6 pages in LNCS format
Submission address: submit to [log in to unmask]
