Second Call for participation for a Workshop on

End User Programming for the Web

at CHI 2009 (Boston, MA, USA, April 2009)

** Deadline for Position Papers has been extended to October 31 **

In the past several years, there has been a resurgence in research
activity in end user programming, all focused on the web. As the web has
evolved from a set of documents to a platform for new applications, many
researchers have created tools that allow end users, or non-programmers,
to customize their web experiences. Users can now more easily aggregate
information from different websites, create mobile versions of web
pages, and automate repetitive tasks. Despite this recent growth,
researchers in this area have yet to come together as a coherent
community. This one-day workshop will help us assemble as a community,
share lessons, and learn from each other.

The workshop will include group discussions about 1) visionary scenarios
2) common research problems, 3) creating a shared corpus of evaluation
tasks for comparing systems, 4) creating an environment for sharing
code, and 5) planning the production of an edited book, to be published
before CHI 2010.

Participants will be selected based on their position paper, prior
published work in this area, and interest in writing a chapter for the
edited book that will result from this workshop. Four-page position
papers describing prior work, current interests, and chapter suggestions
may be e-mailed to Allen Cypher at [log in to unmask] At least one
author of each accepted paper needs to register for the workshop and for
one or more days of the conference itself.

** Submission Deadline: October 31, 2008, 11:59pm PDT **

Workshop Organizers:
Allen Cypher IBM Almaden Research Center
Tessa Lau IBM Almaden Research Center
Jeffrey Nichols IBM Almaden Research Center
Mira Dontcheva Adobe Systems
