The Human Centered Technologies Group in the Department of Computer Science at the University of British Columbia is seeking applications for 2 two-year post-doctoral fellow positions.

There are several ongoing projects, of which a post-doctoral fellow could join one or more. These projects span the following areas:

Project Area 1: Implicit, low-attention, eyes-free control of  applications and devices, drawing on affective and haptic channels.

Project Area 2: Technologies for older users and for users with cognitive impairments.

Project Area 3: Personalized user interfaces that support learnability.

Two positions are available and the selection of candidates will depend on the fit of applicants to these project areas.

Application Criteria:
Start dates are flexible, but ideal candidates will be able to start between August 2010 and January 2011.

Skills or experience specific to one or more of the project areas, demonstrated by a corresponding publication record, include:
- affective and/or haptic interaction design
- attentional processing
- experience working with older users or special populations

Skills or experience required for all project areas include:
- some experience with both quantitative and qualitative methods,  and deep experience in at least one of them
- practice in iterative design and prototyping
- evidence of independent work and strong team skills
- excellent communication skills
