This is your opportunity to help select the papers presented at alt.chi at
CHI 2011 in Vancouver!

alt.chi has received 46 exciting submissions this year. From now until the
morning of February 10, all members of the CHI community are invited to
review and to help decide which papers will be accepted. The strength and
nature of the generated discussion are among the many criteria used to make
final selections. Please come and participate in order to help make 2011 the
best alt.chi yet!

alt.chi invites controversial ideas (ignore the user?), novel prototypes (is
this DUX -- Designing for User Experience?), "failed" but valuable user
studies (null results?), bold experiments (no pain, no gain?), and anything
else that can give a fresh perspective on CHI (paradigm shift?). We invite
submissions that explore technical or practical limitations in technologies
or methodologies (support for user laziness?); that introduce promising,
although currently non-viable techniques (perhaps using Wizard-of-Oz
methods); that critique the current state of the field (where's your formal
experiment?); and that explore topics outside of current discussion
(human-pillow interfaces?). How about replication studies (good for
students!)? We invite work that would otherwise not have been presented at
CHI 2011, because it is too controversial (or too embarrassing) or outside
of the norm. In essence, any compelling paper which will provoke new ideas
or stir-up discussions within the CHI community is appropriate for alt.chi.
The full alt.chi CFP can be found here:
http://chi2011.org/authors/altchi/index.html

As always when reviewing submissions to any category of CHI, please remember
that while open to members of the CHI community, submissions under alt.chi
are confidential. You may not share them, post them, describe them to
others, or in any other way transmit any of the information they contain.

Thank you for being an invaluable part of the alt.chi process.

Daniel Wigdor & Patrick Baudisch

Co-chairs of alt.chi 2011
