ISMAR is the premier international meeting place for Mixed Reality (MR)
and Augmented Reality (AR) science and technology. The core ISMAR
program continues its excellence in representing the latest capabilities
developed in Science and Technology research. Returning research
scientists and engineers will be inspired by the breadth and depth of
research expanding the capabilities of MR and AR in areas of computer
science, human factors, real-time rendering, optics, ubiquitous
computing, computer vision, tracking, imaging, and much more. MR and AR
allow the creation of fascinating new types of user interfaces, and are
beginning to show significant impact on industry and society. The field
is highly interdisciplinary, bringing together computer graphics,
computer vision, signal processing, user interfaces, human factors,
wearable computing, mobile computing, computer networks, displays,
optics, and sensors, to name just some of hte most important
influences. MR and AR concepts are applicable to a wide range of
applications.

This year also marks the introduction of an extended program for the
Arts, Media, and Humanities. Artists, designers, media producers and
futurists will present new frontiers in the power of MR and AR to
express, convey, impact, and improve human experience and interpretation
in the areas of education, training, entertainment, communications,
design, and media production. The programs will be covering how MR and
AR are revolutionizing diverse application domains and how its
innovators are applying the art and craft of melting the boundaries
between the real, virtual, and imagined.

ISMAR 2009 will also offer an expanded tutorials program featuring MR
and AR pioneers presenting the breadth and depth of advancements in the
field. Through projects and research in the areas of education,
training, entertainment, communications, design, and media production,
the programs will cover how Mixed and Augmented Reality can be applied
to diverse domains.

This year's conference will also offer a wide variety of workshops
and hands-on demonstrations. Laboratory demonstrations from around the
world will present the latest developments, and attendees will be able
to interact with the inventors. A special Mixed and Augmented Reality
Showcase will present more immersive presentations of advanced
applications. Commercial exhibitions will provide demonstrations of the
latest enabling products available for MR and AR. The highly successful
Tracking Contest returns this year.

You may reach the registration page for ISMAR 2009 from the general
ISMAR web page, at http://www.ismar09.org/, or via the registration
portal at http://www.regonline.com/Checkin.asp?EventId=755867. IEEE
members should enter the registration code "IEEE2009" (without the
quotes) and be prepared to show proof of membership when picking up
registration materials at the conference.

We look forward to seeing you in Orlando!
