iConference 2011, an open conference sponsored by 28 Information Schools.
February 8-11 in Seattle. Early registration through December 14.

The keynote speakers are Colin Burke and Susan Dumais. Burke is a musician-turned-historian whose book "Information and Secrecy: Vannevar Bush, Ultra, and the Other Memex" is one of my favorites read in recent years. He has also written a history of Information Science. He outlines much that is relevant in thinking about today and tomorrow. Dumais is of course a CHI Academy member and information retrieval pioneer who has led fascinating research in diverse aspects of search.

This may be a breakthrough conference, an opportunity to become acquainted with the growing Information movement.
The registration fee is lower than most ACM conferences (the proceedings will be in the ACM Digital Library, although it isn't organized by ACM).
