Call for Workshops and Tutorials

2010 IEEE Symposium on Visual Languages and Human-Centric Computing (VL/HCC'10)

Madrid, Spain, 21-25 September 2010

The VL/HCC organisers welcome proposals for Satellite Workshops and
Tutorials on specific topics related to visual languages and
human-centric computing. These may be half-day or full-day events and
will be held either on the 21st September 2010 or on the 25th
September 2010, either side of the main VL/HCC 2010 conference.
Preference will be give to workshops that have the potential for
bringing together researchers and practitioners from other communties
to generate discussions with the VL/HCC community, thereby potentially
facilitating new directions for research. Tutorials should aim to
provide practical instruction in a particular research method or
technical approach, at a level suitable for graduate students or
researchers moving into a new field.

Workshop proposals should include the following information:

  * Title of workshop
  * workshop outline or preliminary call for papers (one page)
  * tentative program committee
  * planned submission selection process
  * format of submissions
  * format of workshop (1/2 day, full day)
  * estimated number of participants (between 15 and 40 persons)
  * short bios of organizers (including contact addresses)
  * possible sponsors for workshop
  * publication plans (e.g. proceedings, or follow-up special issues)

In particular, the workshop outline should include a desciption of the
overall topic of the workshop, indicate why this topic is of
particular interest at this time, and to whom, and state its relevance
to VL/HCC 2010. If the workshop has been organized in the past, please
give details (including URL) and describe why it should be held again
and what improvements will be made.

Tutorial Proposals should include the following information:

  * Title of tutorial
  * Tutorial outline (one page)
  * format of tutorial (1/2 day, full day)
  * estimation of number of participants
    (between 15 and 40 persons)
  * short bios of organizers
    (including contact addresses)

The deadlines for workshops/tutorials are as follows:

  * January 4th, 2010: informal "intention to submit" email
  * January 11th, 2010: submission of proposals by email
  * February 1st, 2010: notification of acceptance

Preliminary proceedings of workshop contributions, and handouts for
the tutorial participants, can be copied by the conference organizers
and distributed at the conference site if requested.

Proposals, requests for further information, or queries about the
scope of the VL/HCC Workshop/tutorial programme, should be sent to the
