We invite your participation at WSDM 2012 in Seattle, Washington, USA from February 8 to 12, 2012. WSDM (pronounced "wisdom") is the premier international ACM conference covering research in the areas of search and data mining on the Web. The Fifth ACM WSDM Conference will feature a phenomenal technical program including 80 papers (http://wsdm2012.org/program/overview.html), 2 keynotes, 2 workshops, 3 tutorials, and a doctoral consortium. Additional information is available at the conference website: http://wsdm2012.org/.
WSDM publishes original, high quality papers and presentations related to search and data mining on the Web and the Social Web, with an emphasis on practical but principled novel models of search, retrieval and data mining, algorithm design and analysis, economic implications, and in-depth experimental analysis of accuracy and performance. WSDM 2012 features a top-quality single-track technical program (a list of accepted papers is available here: http://wsdm2012.org/program/overview.html). In addition to paper presentations, our two keynotes this year will be:
* Hal Varian (Chief Economist, Google)
* Hilary Mason (Chief Scientist, bit.ly<http://bit.ly>)
Workshops (Feb 12, 2012):
* WSCD 2012: Workshop on Web Search Click Data
* DDR-2012: Diversity in Document Retrieval
Tutorials (Feb 8, 2012):
* Mining, Search and Exploiting Collaboratively Generated Content on the Web
* Machine Learning for Query-Document Matching in Search
* Collaborative Information Seeking: Understanding Users, Systems and Content
The 2012 ACM Conference on Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) will also be in the Seattle area coincidental with WSDM. CSCW is a premier venue for presenting research in the design and use of technologies that affect groups, organizations, and communities. The co-location of these conferences provides an excellent opportunity for two relatively disjoint communities with strongly overlapping interests to forge new bridges and connections. People attending CSCW may cross-register for the last day of the WSDM main program, and which will include the research presentations most related to the social web.
WSDM 2012 is co-sponsored by SIGIR, SIGKDD, SIGMOD, and SIGWEB with corporate sponsorship from Microsoft Research, Bing, eBay, Yahoo! Labs, Google, SurfCanyon and Yandex.
Looking forward to seeing you in Seattle,
Eytan Adar and Jaime Teevan
