Postdoctoral Fellow position available at Cornell University

Forecasting critical societal events from Open Source Communication Data

Seeking a creative and energetic postdoctoral fellow to join an 
inter-disciplinary team of researchers developing methods for 
forecasting significant societal events, ranging from infectious human 
illness outbreaks to violent protests to by analyzing the billions of 
pieces of publicly available data, such as tweets, you tube videos, and 
flickr images.

This research is part of EMBERS (Early Model Based Event Recognition 
using Surrogates), a large collaborative project involving Virginia 
Tech, the University of Maryland, Children's Hospital of Boston, San 
Diego State University, University of California at San Diego, and 
Indiana University and is supported by IARPA (Intelligence Advanced 
Research Projects Activity).

Individuals with PhD in computer science with background in audio-visual 
and text data processing and machine learning are encouraged to apply. 
Strong communication skills, independence, motivation, and the ability 
to work productively as part of an interdisciplinary team are highly
