vision and multimedia retrieval for cultural heritage
at Idiap and EPFL, Switzerland
-------------------------------------------------

We are looking for highly motivated candidates for
two positions in computer vision and multimedia retrieval
for cultural heritage, in the context of a new project
funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).
The project is a follow-up of the CODICES project
(http://www.idiap.ch/project/codices) and involves
computer science and archaeology partners in Switzerland
and Germany. Both positions are available immediately.

Postdoctoral candidates are expected to have a PhD in
computer science or electrical engineering on one or
more of the following topics: object detection and
recognition, machine learning, multimedia retrieval,
or document analysis. Candidates are also expected
to have a strong publication record, and a genuine
interest in working as part of a multidisciplinary
team developing methods for cultural heritage
applications. The position is for up to three years.

Ph.D. student candidates are expected to have a master's
degree in computer science or electrical engineering
with strong mathematical and programming skills.
Experience in computer vision, machine learning, or
multimedia retrieval is a plus. The student will
enroll at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology
in Lausanne (EPFL). The position is for four years.

Idiap (EPFL's Lidiap laboratory) is located in Martigny
in Valais, a scenic region in French-speaking Switzerland
surrounded by the highest mountains of Europe, which
offers multiple recreational activities,including
hiking, climbing, and skiing, as well as varied cultural
activities, all within close proximity to Lausanne and
Geneva. Idiap is an equal opportunity employer and
offers a young, multicultural environment where English
is the main working language.
