We've saved tons of money by buy a good TV/Video graphics card that
does a good a job capturing computer actions + taping audio all to a
videotape instead of buying a scan converter -- the quality is about as good
when replaying out to just about any display.

Subject: Portable Lab Specifications

Hello--

My company is considering acquiring a portable usability lab for testing
interfaces. We've rented in the past, but it makes sense to go the next
step and purchase the equipment. I would be very interested to hear from
others who have already researched or made this investment. I'm particularly
interested to hear:

-Stories of satisfied/unsatisfied customers and the vendor chosen
-Any specifications you may have come up with for acquiring the parts
separately and building your own lab
-General warnings or recommendations for how you would change things if you
could make the choice all over again

The system we've used in the past has been quite basic (scan converter plus
1 camera for the user's face), but seemed enough for the tests we were
doing. If there are any "nice to have" items you use I'd love to hear them.

Thanks in advance for all input. The collective wisdom of this list is
invaluable.
