/Browsers/Browser_Usage_Statistics/  but these are not formal studies -
they're all based on the traffic one particular site gets. Other firms (Zona
research is one I think) publish more robust data -
http://www.zonaresearch.com/ , but when I tried to search for stuff I got a
bunch of hits with broken links.  Also a warning: some of these firms are
paid by NSCP or MS to do their surveys.

Does anyone know some statistics about how many web-users use any specific
browser *and* version, eg. IE 3.0?
Reports about browser-version-diffusion (- answering *why* this or that
version is used in specific user-segments, like developers or webchatters or
...) are also very welcome.

We are currently discussing this as developers tend to develop for newer
browsers (IE and NN versions 4.x) and in the worst cases exclude users with
older browsers. We find it hard to back our arguments with empirical data,
so if you know of any user-surveys or reports on browser-usage, please help.

From pre-test interviews we know that some users know what a browser is, or
which one they have, and some even know the version. But we have also seen
users with one or two years of web-experience knowing next to nothing about
their browser, but still fully capable of browsing the Internet.
