I'm not aware of or involved in any specific research; however, I've
recently become aware of a local (Minnesota USA) cancer center that has been
advertising on television its revolutionary approach to patient-centered
care. They apparently involved patients in the design (imagine that!) of the
spaces and experiences. I haven't looked into it any more than that, but
it's quite intriguing:
