Workshop Scope and Description
----------------------------------------------------------------
As mobile devices become more technologically sophisticated, mobile augmented reality is becoming a reality. This is evidenced by the growth in the number of applications, which offer some form of augmented reality experience (can we give some examples here).
While many of these applications and services are currently quite limited, we envision a world where mobile augmented reality will play a central role in users' daily activities, transforming their perception of what and who surrounds them.
With this workshop, we aim to explore the design of information layouts for augmenting objects, people and the terrain, but also people's activities and the ways in which mobile augmented reality is transforming and could transform them. We invite contributions, which may focus on a range of topics from technical to theoretical to empirical. Topics include but are not limited to:
* The design of mobile augmented reality experiences, including the ways in which current design methods do/do not offer value in the design of mobile augmented reality

* Exploration of different human sensing modalities for augmenting reality, including proposal and evaluation of theoretical models of human sensing and information

* Technological advancements and challenges in the creation of mobile augmented reality

* Analytic and empirical evaluations of current mobile augmented reality applications and their ability to increase and/or disrupt immersion within the 'real' world

* Exploration currently available platforms and devices (e.g., smart- phones, Pico-projectors, multi-gestures, gesture-recognition)

* Novel design methods and techniques for augmented reality experiences, applications, services and platforms The potential for mobile augmented for different forms of information and different kinds of setting

* How mobile augmented reality can serve as a platform for new experiences and applications (e.g., health care, art, entertainment).

* How mobile augmented reality can serve as a window onto human capabilities and behaviours, including perception, problem solving, communication and navigation

* Trade-offs between added information value and perceptual distraction in the use of mobile augmented reality

* How mobile augmented reality can trigger, promote and support ad-hoc, in-situ cooperation scenarios

* Mobile Augmented reality to promote production of content and inclusion as a way to shape realities that better suit the needs of users around the world.

Expected outcomes from this workshop are the creation of a group of researchers, practitioners and developers interested in the present and future of mobile augmented reality, and potential collaborations and research projects that address some of the discussed issues and advance the state-of-the-art for mobile augmented reality design and research. We will also be exploring the potential for an edited volume and/or journal special issue on the topic

Topics
----------------------------------------------------------------
We solicit original research and position papers focusing on the following topics (but not limited to):
* Design of Mobile Augmented Reality Apps

*       Privacy Issues with AR

* Augmented Reality for Social Networks

*       Prototyping Mobile Augmented Reality

*       Evaluating Mobile Augmented Reality

*       Augmented Reality for Navigation

*       Collaborative Mobile Augmented Reality

*       Augmented Reality for Advertisement

* Augmented Reality Games and Entertainment

* Mobile Augmented Reality for Health Care

* Mobile Augmented Reality for Education

* Haptics, sound and gestures for Mobile Augmented Reality

* Projectors and Pico-projectors for Mobile Augmented Reality

Paper Submission
----------------------------------------------------------------
To participate please submit a paper on digital format (PDF) describing your work and experience on mobile augmented reality to [log in to unmask] by April 8th, 2011. Movies, sketches, or applications to support your submission are also welcome. At least one author of each accepted paper must register for the workshop, and for at least one conference day.
