The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC)’s Advanced Digital 
Sciences Center (ADSC) in Singapore is looking for Ph.D. students with 
experience and interests in image processing, computer vision, and/or 
computer-human interaction.

Applicants must qualify for an A*STAR scholarship program (SINGA or 
AUIP) and will receive a Ph.D. degree from NUS/NTU or UIUC, respectively 
(see www.adsc.illinois.edu/graduate-programs.html for more info and 
eligibility).

The application deadline for SINGA is 1st June 2011 (January intake).

Research topics include:
• Image selection/enhancement for automated photo album creation.
• Stereo/3D perception modelling.
• Computer-human interaction in augmented reality applications.
• Identification and tracking of clouds.

Opportunities for students:
• Work closely with ADSC researchers as well as local and Illinois 
faculty members.
• Focus on applied research and commercialization – patents and 
spin-offs are highly encouraged.
• Multidisciplinary research projects and applications (e.g. biomedical).
• Possibility to spend time at the Illinois campus.

Applicants must have:
• A Bachelor's or Master's degree with excellent academic credentials.
• Relevant research skills and exposure, demonstrated by projects, 
internships, and/or publications.
• Programming experience (C++ and/or Matlab).
• Excellent English communication skills (oral and written).

ADSC (www.adsc.illinois.edu) is a research center established by the 
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the Agency for Science, 
Technology, and Research (A*STAR). ADSC’s funding is part of the Human 
Sixth Sense Program (HSSP), which focuses on the areas of interactive 
digital media and networking. ADSC currently employs about 20 full-time 
research staff, plus many engineers and students from around the world.
