The May issue of UPA's flagship _Journal of Usability Studies_ (JUS) is live and available: http://www.upassoc.org/upa_publications/jus/jus_home.html

This issue has an editorial by Ginny Redish and Carol Barnum urging UX professionals and technical communicators to work more closely together. Ginny describes how much UPA depended on technical communicators for its start and early days. Carol points out the similarities between UX and TC professionals in terms of training and experience and urges more contact at meetings and more joint publishing.

As luck would have it, this issue we have our first peer-reviewed article that bridges the UX-TC areas of interest. Erin Friess analyzed the statements made during test sessions by participants and the statements made be designers about what was found in the test sessions. The overlap is quite small - many of the problems reported do not show up in the sessions and other problems that show up in the sessions are not reported.

There are two other studies in the issue, a survey of 100 empirical studies of cell phones and a study of how users miss text ads in web pages just as they miss banner adds.

Congratulations to co-Editors-in-Chief, Joe Dumas and Marilyn Tremaine for a job well-done.
