DRCx – DESIGN RESEARCH CONFERENCE

The Impact of Technology on Design Research
IIT Institute of Design, Chicago
Oct. 24–26, 2011

Ever wondered what the world looks like through the eyes of the user at
the center of your research?

Or why every field trip yields a quadruple amount of imagery without the
one shot you’d really need to get your point across?

How is it that we constantly struggle to shift our mindset the slightest
bit to better match the research subject at hand?

Why do some sketches seem to convey an idea perfectly, easy and simple,
while some elaborate sketches fall short of being useful at all?

Where did that interesting research from last year’s project disappear
to, and why do we repeatedly continue to look into the same stuff?

If you have ever bothered yourself with one of the above questions, come
along and sign up for one of five great workshops[1] happening prior to
this year’s conference:

1. Research Photography[2] with Ben McAllister, Frog

2. Design Improv[3] with Raphael D’Amico, ID, and Byron Stewart, DD+D

3. What4[4] with Rachel Kaberon, E³

4. Sketching[5] with Mike Roy, MAYA

5. Groundhog Day[6] with Greg Ames and Joel Kashuba, Procter & Gamble

All workshops will be held on Monday, October 24, from 1-5 pm at the IIT
Institute of Design (ID), 350 N. LaSalle, Chicago. Check-in for workshop
participants will be open at ID, 4th floor, 12–2 pm.

We are excited to announce the opportunity for workshop participants to
exchange some of their experiences and to get to know other participants
and speakers during an intimate reception at ID at the end of the day.

Workshops are open only to conference attendees. We urge you not to miss
this great opportunity to flex your design muscles a bit, so register[7]
today!
