ACM SIGCHI Symposium on Engineering Interactive Computing Systems
http://eics-conference.org
Copenhagen, Denmark | June 25-28, 2012
------------------------------------------------------------------------
OVERVIEW
EICS 2012 is the fourth international conference devoted to engineering usable and effective interactive computing systems. Topics of interest include multi-device interactive systems, new and emerging modalities (e.g., gesture), entertaining applications (e.g., mobile and ubiquitous games), safety critical systems (e.g. medical devices), and design and development methods (e.g., extreme programming).
EICS focuses on methods, techniques, and tools for designing and developing interactive systems. The conference brings together people who study or practice the engineering of interactive systems, drawing from HCI, Software Engineering, Requirements Engineering, CSCW, Ubiquitous and Pervasive Systems, and Game Development communities.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
CONFERENCE TOPICS
Submissions are invited that address some aspect of the engineering of human-computer interactive systems. Topics include but are not limited to:
* modelling interaction and interactive systems
* engineering processes for interactive systems (e.g. design, implementation, prototyping and testing)
* integrating interaction design into the software development process
* interactive systems specification
* requirements engineering for interactive systems
* software architectures for interactive systems
* frameworks and APIs for interactive systems (e.g. API usability, interaction-driven API design)
* dynamic generation and composition of interactive systems
* formal methods for HCI
* specifying users' activities
* innovative interactive applications
* designing usable software
* evaluation/testing of user interfaces
* end-user development of interactive systems
* engineering solutions for innovative applications
* engineering fun

TYPE OF SUBMISSIONS
Long Papers (10 pages), Late Breaking Results (6 pages), Demonstrations (6 pages), Doctoral Consortium submissions (4 pages), Tutorial and Workshop proposals (2 pages).
Long and LBR papers will be classified into one the following categories:
Technical solution papers present approaches that are novel or significantly improve existing solutions to the engineering of interactive computing systems. A technical solution paper must include a preliminary assessment of the proposal. The contribution must be stated clearly enough so that it is possible to replicate it in later research.
Case study papers report experience gained on case studies and on applying engineering to large scale interactive computing applications. We are interested in the problems and challenges faced, and in how successful, or not, the adopted solutions were.
Accepted contributions will be published in the ACM SIGCHI proceedings of EICS 2012 as well as in the ACM Digital Library.
