CHI 2012 - It's the Experience!
May 5-10, 2012 - Austin, Texas
http://chi2012.acm.org/
The ACM SIGCHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems is the
premier international conference on human-computer interaction. The
experience of CHI 2012 is centered in vibrant Austin, Texas, the Live
Music Capital of the World.
UPCOMING DEADLINE: 9 January 2012
9 January 2012 is the deadline for Interactivity, alt.chi,
Works-in-Progress, SIG Meetings, Student Competitions, Videos and
workshop submissions.
Visit http://chi2012.acm.org/submissions.shtml for a full overview.
* Workshops *
33 workshops will be organized at CHI 2012. Workshops are a chance for
members of a community with common interests to meet in the context of a
focused and interactive discussion. Please consider attending a
workshop, and take part in this opportunity to move a new field forward
and build community.

* Interactivity *
Interactivity is your chance to fully engage CHI attendees at a personal
level by letting them see, touch, squeeze, hear or even smell your
interactive visions for the future.
To make interactivity even bigger and better, there are two ways to
submit for Interactivity this year:
- Interactivity Research is the high-visibility, high-impact forum of
the Technical Program which allows you to present your hands-on
demonstration in two sessions.
- Interactivity Explorations is about cultural applications and
explorations of future technologies. If your work asks questions and
inspires reflection on the role of technology in people’s lives, their
dreams and imaginations we want to hear from you.
New & better this year: Get more attention, simplified submission!
* alt.chi *
alt.chi 2012 proudly continues the tradition of bringing substantive,
thought-provoking, original work to CHI through an alternative approach.
We invite the submission of bold, compelling, critical, and innovative
works that challenge or re-imagine human computer interaction research
and design.
* Works-in-Progress *
A Work-in-Progress is a concise report of recent findings or other types
of innovative or thought-provoking work relevant to the CHI community.
Appropriate submissions should make some contribution to the body of HCI
knowledge, whether realized or promised. A significant benefit of a
Work-in-Progress derives from the discussion between the author and
conference attendees that will be fostered by the face-to-face, poster
presentation of the work. More info: http://chi2012.acm.org/cfp-wip.shtml
* SIG Meetings *
Organizing a SIG is a great way to start or extend your involvement in
the CHI conference program — several SIGs have evolved into other
successful contribution types at subsequent conferences. In addition to
interesting and innovative SIG topics, we also encourage interesting and
innovative approaches to organizing and conducting the SIG itself. Feel
free to contact us ([log in to unmask]) before submitting a proposal
to discuss your ideas and questions.
* Student Competitions *
This year there are three student competitions:
- Student Design Competition (SDC)
- Student Research Competition (SRC)
- Student Game Competition (SGC)
* Videos *
The videos track is a forum for human-computer interaction that leaps
off the page: vision videos, reflective pieces, humor, novel interfaces,
studies, and anything else that is a good match for the moving image and
relevant to HCI. Videos are due 9 Jan 2012.
