Chalmers University of Technology and SAAB are pleased to announce a two-year postdoctoral position in Interactive Visualisation in Command and Control

To Apply: visit https://swbcisb.induct.no/login, create an account and follow the necessary steps. Deadline is May 17th.

Research Area
*********************************************
Chalmers t2i Interaction Lab is happy to announce a postdoctoral research position in Interactive Visualisation. Information visualisation combines research in human-computer interaction, computer science, graphics, visual design, and psychology in order to facilitate analytical reasoning, by employing the human mind's ability to understand complex information visually.
Scientific visualisation is primarily concerned with the visualisation of three-dimensional phenomena (architectural, meteorological, medical, and biological), with a dynamic time component. The increase in accessibility and precision of depth cameras promise to change desktop and mobile interaction forever. The output of depth cameras are point clouds, where processing is regarded as scivis, but where output can also enhance interaction infovis methods.
The project will focus on finding and developing interaction methods for large displays that support analytical reasoning for infovis applications. Natural interaction methods integrating multi-touch and touch-free gestural input will be of particular interest.

Research environment available:
*********************************************
Barco Galaxy 4K-23, a 6 by 3 meters display, equipped with touch sensing Qualisys optical motion-capture system
Various interactive systems from the t2i Interaction Lab

Required qualifications and experience:
*********************************************
Candidates should hold a PhD degree in a relevant area
The idea candidate should have strong journal and conference publication record, such as EG and SIGGRAPH, paired with ambitions for CHI, UIST, etc..
Teamwork capability
Strong programming skills
Experience with Point cloud processing

Further qualifications that will be given consideration:
Experience of empirical validation
Experience with VTK, PCL or OpenNI
Knowledge of interaction design for real-life applications

Application
*********************************************
The scholar has to submit letter of motivation, CV and list of publications to [log in to unmask] If appropriate, please send PCL / VTK / OpenNI contributions or scientific visualization / geometry processing / shape analysis projects employing these frameworks.

Prof. Morten Fjeld, t2i Lab, Dept. Applied IT (AIT), Chalmers, [log in to unmask], Phone: +46 31 772 1027
Morten Fjeld’s research activities are situated in the field of Human-Computer Interaction with a focus on tangible and tabletop user computing. In 2005, he founded the t2i Interaction Lab at Chalmers in Sweden (http://www.t2i.se/). He holds a dual MSc degree in applied mathematics from NTNU (Trondheim, Norway) and ENSIMAG (Grenoble, France), and a PhD from ETH (Zurich, Switzerland). In 2002, Morten Fjeld received the ETH Medal for his PhD titled "Designing for Tangible Interaction". In 2011, he was a visiting professor at NUS Singapore. Morten Fjeld also has extensive industrial experience in the areas of fluid mechanics, simulators, and user interface design.

Chalmers University of Technology
*********************************************
Chalmers University of Technology (http://www.chalmers.se/) is one of the leading universities of science and technology in North-Europe. The university is located in Gothenburg, an inviting city for students and researchers, offering both a vibrant life and opportunities for professional growth. Innovative research at Swedish universities and companies has resulted in a number of successful inventions e.g. Spotify and Skype. A number of large multinational corporations, such as Ericsson, Volvo and SKF are headquartered in Gothenburg. In 2012, Chalmers was found to be the Swedish university with the highest esteem in the public’s view. Chalmers is part of the top-notch Alliance of Global Sustainability, working closely with MIT, ETH Zurich, and Tokyo University.
The Division of Interaction Design is part of the Department of Applied Information Technology.
The department has more than 80 faculty members and offers a number of degrees to students committed to scholarship in the wide area of applied information technology. We are located at Lindholmen Science Park, one of Sweden’s most dynamic hi-tech areas, just 5 minutes from downtown Gothenburg. Since 2011 our offices, educational studios, and research labs are located in the architecturally cutting-edge building, Kuggen. This research project will be carried out at the Tabletop Interaction Lab (t2i Lab).

SAAB
*********************************************
Saab serves the global market with world-leading products, services and solutions from military defense to civil security. With operations on every continent, Saab continuously develops, adapts and improves new technology to meet customers’ changing needs.
Current markets are Europe, South Africa, Australia and the US. Latin America and especially Brazil are of high importance for Saab together with some selected countries in Asia and the Middle East. Saab has around 13,100 employees. Annual sales amount to around SEK 24 billion, of which research and development account for about 20 per cent of sales.
