1st Call for Papers
International Workshop on Pervasive Computing Education and the Mobile Learner
in conjunction with
Mobile HCI 2012
21-24 September 2012, San Francisco, CA

http://www.mucom.mobi/pceml12

----------------
The goal of this workshop is to bring together practitioners and educators having experience in teaching pervasive / mobile computing subjects or in using pervasive computing technologies to assist the delivery of educational services to mobile learners. Our aspiration is to spark discussion and help shaping the relation between pervasive computing technologies and education / learning environments. Firstly, we are interested in exploring the design and development of pervasive computing services for the mobile learner; in this context, mobility should be considered in its broad sense, describing not only the change of location, but also the change of career path or cultural setting. At the same time, we seek to establish (and maybe standardize) the pathways for delivering courses in pervasive computing in the coming years. Our ultimate goals are to determine the curricula, tools, methodologies and concepts that will shape the thinking and skillset of the future Pervasive System Engineer and distill the best practices in teaching the necessary learning outcomes and qualifications.

The workshop thematic area revolves around the axes of education, learning and mobility. To form a base for discussion, the workshop is split in two main sessions:
•	Experience in delivering long or short courses in pervasive or mobile computing
•	Experience of using m-learning tools and methodologies in any subject area
We thus invite participants to submit their papers (up to 4 pages using the template found on the workshop website) in areas including but not limited to:
•	The core qualifications that are required in various pervasive computing related jobs and the learning outcomes that are associated with them.
•	The blend of pervasive computing curriculum topics (seen as core and supplementary) that can lead to the acquisition of the core qualifications.
•	Experience in teaching (or evaluation of) short pervasive computing courses or being involved in longer programmes of study on pervasive computing.
•	The design or evaluation of pervasive and mobile learning applications for educational purposes.
•	Experience in using pervasive and mobile learning technologies in the delivery of educational services.
•	Access to educational services by the mobile user and learner.

Important dates
•	Position Paper Submission Deadline: May 25th 2012
•	Notification on Position Papers: June 29th 2012
•	Workshop Date: September 21 2012

Important info
•	Papers will be reviewed using a double-blind process.
•	At least one of the authors of the accepted papers needs to register for the workshop and main conference.
•	The authors of best paper from the workshop will be invited to submit their article to a special issue of the Intl. Journal of Mobile HCI.
•	Authors of high quality accepted papers will be invited to submit extended articles to a planned special issue in the Personal & Ubiquitous Computing journal on mobile learning and education of mobile and pervasive computing engineers.
