I'm working with a team to redesign the information architecture,
interface, and look and feel of a (homogeneous) set of Intranet sites at
work (RWD Technologies, http://www.rwd.com/, in case you're interested).

One team member is suggesting we model the navigation after the behavior
of Windows Explorer. I think the purpose of the Windows Explorer is
sufficiently different from a general informational Web site that using
the Explorer navigation behavior may make users expect the site to
behave in a way that it won't.

I'm going to start searching the archives to see if this has been
discussed before, and look at usableweb.com and useit.com. But if
anyone has any messages or discussion about this topic, or knows of any
papers on the issue, I'd like to know.

If this has been discussed recently, and I just missed it, please e-mail
directly to me at [log in to unmask], and I will summarize for
anyone who wants it or for the whole list if appropriate.

Thanks!
