ACK! personally - I dislike them *strongly* because

a) I can't turn them off - except by going into preferences and turning off
javascript (which I have done)

b) every designer seems to make them loop indefinitely

c) most designers stick them in the status field, blocking my view of URLs
as I mouseover stuff. if they are in a text field on the page, usually that
is ugly, designers don't like ugly, so to the status field it goes.


These fall into the caution about excessive movement on the web page, IMO.
Distracting.
