UbiGIS 2004 - First International Workshop on Ubiquitous GIS

                       in conjunction with:

Geoinformatics 2004 - the 12th International Conference on Geoinformatics

        7-9 June 2004 - Gävle, Sweden - www.hig.se/geoinformatics

Workshop Topic

On the relationship of Geographic Information Services & Ubiquitous Computing
Intro Ubiquitous Computing (UbiComp) is seen as one of the big trends in computing.
It deals with distributed and mobile computer systems, which make the computer disappear -
through a range of new devices and interaction possibilities. On the other side, GIS is
changing from a tool for specialists to an infrastructure & tool used in a wide range of
domains and applications.

As the technology matures we now come to the stage where we need to discuss the
potentials, problems and technical issues of the interplay of GIS and UbiComp. What
are the contributions of both fields to each other and how can they benefit from each
other in order to build and utilize truly Ubiquitous GI Services (UbiGIS)?
Therefore the workshop aims at addressing research questions around these themes.
Workshop contributions may include, but are not limited to the following topics:

Topics

- LBS, mobile GIS and beyond
- GIS architectures for UbiComp
- Infrastructure requirements for UbiGIS (distributed databases, geodata etc.)
- GIS applications and services in UbiComp (e.g. telematics)
- Deployment of ubiquitous GIS services
- Geodata infrastructures for UbiGIS
- Users and usage of UbiGIS
- UbiGIS user interfaces (eg. multi-modal)
- GIS interaction paradigms in UbiComp, Adaptivity and personalization of GIS
- Formal modelling of Location, Situation, Context and Task for UbiGIS
- Metadata, semantics and ontologies
- Beyond Component-based GIS and GIS
- Web Services for UbiGIS
- Augmented (Spatial) Reality in UbiComp
- Security & privacy in Ubiquitous GIS
- GIS sensors for UbiComp (in- & outdoor)
