Notification of acceptance June 15, 2014
Publication Sept. 2014

You are invited to submit an article to the special issue on Smart
Environment Technologies of the Journal of Communications Software
and Systems (JCOMSS). JCOMSS is indexed in INSPEC, EBSCO and SCOPUS,
and is currently under evaluation at the Thomson Reuters. The journal
is technically cosponsored by IEEE Communication Society since 2005.

JCOMSS welcomes papers dealing with new methods, algorithms and
implementation aspects. Particular interest of this special issue
is to present and discuss recent advances in technologies,
architectures, algorithms and protocols for smart environments
with emphasis on real smart environment applications. Smart
environment represents a world full of different sensors and smart
devices seamlessly working together, making everyday living easier
and more comfortable. Recent advances in areas like pervasive
computing, machine learning, wireless and sensor networking enable
various smart environment applications in everyday life.

For details on the manuscript format please visit the JCOMSS web.
Submissions of four-page letters are highly encouraged, too.

The scope includes, but is not limited to the following topics:

- Smart environments, Smart buildings, Smart cities
- Ambient intelligence and assisted living
- Smart devices and intelligent products
- Environmental control systems
- Context awareness
- Ubiquitous/Pervasive computing
- Wireless sensor networks
- Localization technologies
- Location-based Services (LBS)
- Speech and speaker recognition
- Text-to-Speech (TTS)
- Virtual and augmented reality environments
- Human Computer Interaction (HCI)
- Innovative sensing devices
- Low power sensing and ambient energy harvesting
- RFID sensing
- Internet of Things
- Wearable technologies
- Robotics
- e-Health
- Applications: assisted living, elderly care, patient monitoring,
home safety, energy efficiency, entertainment, multimedia, smart
  classrooms, smart cars...
